Shennong was one of the earliest emperor in remote antiquity of China. He has been regarded as the ancestor of civilization of China. Beside discovering tea, he had many other great contributions to humans.

  1. He taught humans the use of the plow. He led people from nomadic life to agricultural life.
  2. Shennong invented the market and set up the mid day as trading time, which was the origin and cornerstone of China’s currency and commercial development.
  3. He advocated to makingtextile and people started wearing real clothes, instead of leaves and animal skins.
  4. He Invented 5string musical instrument as the earliest entertainment.
  5. He invented bow and arrow. It prevented the attack of wild animals and effectively defensed the invasion of Foreign Tribes
  6. He invented potteries and this definitely improved people’s life a lot.
  7. He invented the Chinese calendar, especially the division into the 24 jieqi or solar terms.
  8. He tasted various plants and regarded as father of Chinese herbal medicine. He died due to the toxin of plants finally.
