The Chinese understanding of time is different from the West, which can be seen from the way of recording the year. Westerners believe that time is a straight line, taking a special date as year 0, and adding 1 every year, and there is no end.

The Chinese believe that time is a circle, and everything is in a cycle. The Chinese way of dating was to use the combination of two groups of elements, the heavenly stem and the earthly branch, which originated from the observation of celestial phenomena in ancient China. The Ten Heavenly Stems and the Twelve Earthly Branches are matched in turn to form 60 basic units. That is, in Chinese tradition, the same year will be repeated once every 60 years.

Chinese also use twelve animals to represent the twelve Earthly Branches, known as the zodiac. They are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, Rooster, dog, pig. People born in different years will have different zodiac signs. Different animal signs also represent different characteristics. This table is the years of the birth and the corresponding zodiac signs.

However, please note that the traditional Chinese calendar is the lunar calendar, which is different from the Western calendar and often has a deviation of 1 to 2 months. For example, if you were born on January 10, 2022, which should be in the lunar calendar December 8th 2021, belonging the year of Ox.
